By Jovanka Vuckovic, George Romero and Jennifer Eiss

ZOMBIES! An Illustrated History of the Undead is the first book to take a long, putrefying look at the entire zombie phenomenon. From origins in Haitian voodoo zombie lore and the literature of Mary Shelley and Edgar Allan Poe, the undead began to slowly seep through the pulp magazines and silent cinema of the early twentieth century, and on to classic 1970s and eighties undead flicks like Lucio Fulci’s Zombie and George A. Romero’s legendary Dawn of the Dead.

Written by famed horror expert Jovanka Vuckovic, and featuring an exclusive foreword from Romero himself, ZOMBIES! brings you all this and more, coming right up to date with movies like Zombieland and [Rec], the new wave of zombie novels, The Walking Dead comic book and TV show, and even zombie walks. Despite numerous attempts to assign the rotting corpses permanently to their graves, there is no end in sight to our thirst for the horror and drama that the undead provide. ZOMBIES! is a fascinating and visually arresting roam through a still-vital sub-genre.

“With a clean, declarative prose style that is entertaining without being fluffy, the author ably chaperones the reader through ninety years’-worth of the undead.”
– Richard Gavin, At Fear’s Altar

“If you buy just one huge, fantastically gruesome, incredibly informative and lovingly put together book of Zombies this year, then make it this one.”
– Keith B Walters,  Books and Writers

“The definitive undead resource book … a fun, entertaining and very informative breakdown of one of horror’s most-loved boogeymen (and boogeywomen).”

“The author’s expertise and love for the genre shine through… one of its strengths is the analysis of how the zombie myth has shifted over the years in order to reflect the most prevalent current fears in society.”
– Blood and Vegetables

“Illustrated throughout with great, ghastly photos and other images, Vuckovic’s labor of love offers enough to satisfy the appetites of both rabid enthusiasts and casual followers.”
– Fangoria Magazine

“No one knows horror like Jovanka Vuckovic and no one is better suited to lay out a gory smorgasboard of zombie history. This is going to be bloody delicious!”
– Jonathan Maberry, NY Times Bestseller and multiple Bram Stoker Award winning author of PATIENT ZERO and ZOMBIE CSU

“Horror to Jovanka Vuckovic is as much about preservation as it is enjoyment. She is the modern equivalent of Forry Ackerman, but her breath is much better.”
– Steve Niles – comic book author, novelist, Creator of 30 Days of Night
